Four young people are travelling with a mobile cinema and a flopped art film to remote villages in Peru. Three of them, originally from Lima, made the film and premiered it in the city’s commercial theatres, where it turned out to be a tremendous failure and was soon taken off the screens. They heard about travelling movies and thought this might be a good way to show their film to areas not contaminated by Hollywood movies. With this idea they hire the fourth member of the group, Beto, an Argentinean who has experience with outdoor screenings, to help with the technical side of things. The trip begins with the enthusiasm of people who want to show off their film and little by little it becomes a reflection on movies, friendship and loneliness.
In their conversations on the road or in the evening beside their tents, lighthearted chatter moves seamlessly to the major questions of life.

¿PARA QUÉ HACER CINE? “SOLOS” ES UNA SENSIBLE Y AGRIDULCE PELÍCULA PERUANA QUE INTENTA RESPONDER TAMAÑA PREGUNTA

El segundo largometraje de Joanna Lombardi, intitulado “Solos”, pone en vitrina el panorama precario que vive el cine peruano de autor. La anécdota cuenta el viaje que hace un grupo de realizadores a la selva para proyectar películas al aire libre y de forma gratuita. Lo que buscan con tal empresa es entender por qué el estreno comercial de aquella obra, la cual es de su autoría, fue un fracaso rotundo de taquilla. El resultado no podría ser más desolador: nadie o casi nadie asiste a las funciones, y los cineastas, tal como reza el título, se quedan solos viendo su propia cinta, oscuros a pesar de la imagen que los alumbra.

Solos es una road movie que narra el viaje de cuatro amigos por la selva peruana, quienes llevan una pantalla inflable para proyectar su película al aire libre, ya que en Lima nadie la fue a ver. En un nuevo recordatorio de que la realidad siempre supera a la ficción, “Solos” llegó la semana pasada a la cartelera comercial limeña, convocando muy pocos espectadores hasta el momento.
