The danzaq, or scissor dancer, from Ayacucho, Huancavelica, or Apurimac, is the only dancer in the Americas into whose body, according to legend, a magical spirit enters: the Wamani, god of the mountains, water, or air. In the counterpoint dances performed at major festivals, it is not two men who confront each other, but rather two telluric gods, accompanied by the music of the harp and violin, which represent all the sounds of nature. Its origins date back to the pre-Columbian era, when certain privileged men were chosen by their fellow men to represent them. (Alfonsina Barrionuevo)

FESTIVAL DE LIMA 2012: “DANZANTES DE TIJERAS”, HOMENAJE A JORGE VIGNATI
Uno de los eventos más importantes a realizarse durante el 16 Festival de Lima será el homenaje que se le rendirá a Jorge Vignati Ojeda, reconocido y muy querido director de fotografía, camarógrafo y realizador peruano. Como parte de este homenaje se presentarán dos películas en las que Vignati trabajó como director de fotografía: La balada del pequeño soldado y Gasherbrum, La montaña radiante, ambas dirigidas por Werner Herzog, con quien el realizador peruano entabló una estrecha relación profesional y amical.

Filmed in 16mm color Ektachrome in a single take in Puquio, Lucanas Province, Ayacucho, in 1972, it was enlarged to 35mm at Alex Laboratories in Buenos Aires, Argentina. On April 5, 1977, COPROCI (Film Promotion Commission) approved the film's exhibition.
