INFORMACIÓN ADICIONAL

The Los Cortadores quarry has existed for over 100 years, hidden away. Seven years ago, it was identified and documented by Beatriz Vilca. In the last five years, with the inevitable expansion of informal settlements in the city of Arequipa, the land is being rapidly and illegally subdivided as its price rises. Several quarries have already been taken over by community groups, and it is very likely that they will disappear within the next ten years due to the limited power the quarrymen have against these encroaching groups.
