In 2005, Antauro Humala seized the police station in Andahuaylas, demanding the resignation of then-President Alejandro Toledo. The serious crisis unleashed by the Ethnocacerist Movement came to an end when the 150 reservists occupying the station surrendered after receiving a letter from their leader, Antauro Humala, asking them to lay down their arms.
